MEET THE DETAILER

My name is Josh Jamison. I was born and raised right here in York, PA. I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Supply Chain Management from Penn State University. I turned that degree into a 22+ year career in procurement. Now, I’m staying curious and following a path that has led me to car detailing. I’ve read that you should go deep and really immerse yourself in several different careers during your life to gain fulfillment and become a well-rounded person. I think there is a lot of wisdom in that statement.

So, how did I arrive at this point?

Let’s go all the way back to when I turned 16 years old and bought my first car—a 1985 Volkswagen Jetta. It was all I could afford at the time (and even broke down a few days after I bought it), but I treated that car like it was a Ferrari. I spent an entire day the first weekend after I bought it thoroughly detailing it. The exterior was washed, waxed, and the tires shined. The interior was cleaned spotless, and Armor All (gasp!) was applied to all the surfaces. Every car that I’ve owned since then has been treated in the same way, detailed from hood to trunk, and well maintained. I would regularly get compliments from people about how clean my car was, and some folks would even tell me I should detail their vehicles. I’d always shrug off those offers. I know how much work goes into truly detailing a car. It was enough for me to just detail my own vehicles.

But...

Recently, something shifted in my mindset about offering my detailing services to people. I decided to accept someone’s offer to detail their car. I told a few more people that I was detailing, and before I knew it, I had multiple jobs lined up. I thought there might be something bigger here, so I decided to explore it further. One thing to know about me is that when I’m into something, I really go all in. Detailing is no different. I want to be the best at getting better (this mantra applies to most things I do). This is different from being “the best.” Being “the best” is a fleeting notion. One week you are on top, the next you are in tenth place. For me, I’m constantly striving to be better at the “thing.”

Pursuing Excellence in Detailing: A Commitment to Knowledge and Customer Satisfaction

For detailing, this means immersing myself in the culture, seeking out educational resources, attending training seminars, earning certifications, figuring out through practical experience what works and what doesn’t, then refining what works until it’s completely dialed in. Creating a robust and repeatable process to help eliminate mistakes. Striving for excellence. Staying humble. If I don’t know something, I ask or research. If there’s a better tool to use, I invest in it…a better method or process to follow, I learn it. I have an insatiable thirst for knowledge and like to really dive deep. Ultimately, this means that you, the customer, benefit from my deep knowledge and ever-evolving skill set when I detail your vehicle. And all of that is served up with enthusiasm because I really enjoy doing the work.

besides detailing

I do have a life outside of detailing, and that includes my lovely, forever supportive wife and two dogs (both Akitas). I’m also an avid distance runner. I have run 48 marathons (or longer) in my life, including the Boston Marathon 12 times. I burn a lot of calories both detailing and running, and my wife and I enjoy cooking at home—especially plant-based meals. Yoga is another essential when performing all this physical activity. It helps with strength, as well as working out any kinks and soreness. Speaking of strength, I do lift weights once per week. You really need to be fit to keep up with the physical demands of the job. So with that, thanks for reading.
